Straight Razor Bismarck Ebony Round Point 6/8" - Dovo

Straight Razor Bismarck Ebony Round Point 6/8" - Dovo

The Dovo Bismarck Ebony Round Point 6/8-inch is a wide, full-hollow-ground straight razor for heavy beard growth and a calm, thorough full shave. The carbon-steel blade combines the greater weight of a 6/8-inch width with a forgiving round point, a thumb hole, black ebony scales, and 24-karat gold ornaments.

With dense or coarse facial hair, a light, narrow blade can feel less steady. Thanks to its greater weight, the wider 6/8-inch blade glides particularly steadily over smooth areas of the face and cuts through dense beard growth without additional pressure. However, it is somewhat less agile than a 5/8-inch blade in tight areas.

Product at a glance

  • 6/8-inch-wide blade for a calm, stable glide
  • Round point without a sharp corner for controlled handling
  • Full-hollow-ground 1.2210 carbon steel
  • Hollow-ground spine and thumb hole as distinctive details
  • Ebony handle and 24-karat gold ornaments

Materials and craftsmanship

The blade is made of 1.2210 carbon steel, also known as silver steel, and is hardened to approximately 61 HRC. With a full hollow grind, the blade is ground concavely and particularly thin from the spine toward the edge. This keeps the wider blade flexible and produces the characteristic bright sound when cutting through beard hair.

Ebony is hard, heavy, and dimensionally stable in humid environments. Multiple sanding stages create the smooth surface of the black scales. The thumb hole and ridged tang support a secure grip and make the greater weight of the 6/8-inch blade easy to control.

How to use

Before shaving, strop the straight razor on a leather strop, stretch the well-lathered skin with your free hand, and guide the blade at an angle of approximately 30 degrees without applying additional pressure. Let the weight of the wide blade do the work and guide it deliberately slowly around the nose and contours. Afterwards, rinse the blade with warm water, carefully pat it dry, and leave the razor open to rest in a dry place.

Who is this product suitable for?

The Dovo Bismarck Ebony is particularly suitable for experienced wet shavers with dense or heavy beard growth and for anyone who prefers a calm, substantial glide during a full shave. The round point is considerably more forgiving than a square point or Spanish point; however, those seeking maximum agility around very tight contours will generally be better served by a 5/8-inch blade.

Good to know:

Due to its greater weight, the 6/8-inch blade glides particularly smoothly, but is less maneuverable around tight contours than a 5/8-inch blade.

FAQ

The fully hollow-ground blade is made of 1.2210 carbon steel and reaches a hardness of approximately 61 HRC. The ornaments are coated with 24-karat gold, while the black handle scales are made of hard, dimensionally stable ebony.

Stretch the well-lathered skin and hold the razor at an angle of approximately 30 degrees without applying additional pressure. Let the blade’s greater weight do the work, and move it more slowly around the nose, chin, and tight contours than you would with a narrower blade.

The 6/8-inch blade has more weight, allowing it to glide particularly smoothly and steadily over flat areas of the face. It is especially well suited to dense or heavy beard growth, but is somewhat less maneuverable than a 5/8-inch blade in tight areas.

The Bismarck is particularly suitable for experienced wet shavers with dense or strong beard growth and for calm, full shaves. Although the round head makes the head shape forgiving, the higher weight and reduced maneuverability of the wide blade still require controlled handling.

A 6/8-inch blade is wider and heavier, allowing it to glide particularly smoothly through thick beard growth during a full shave. A 5/8-inch blade is lighter and more maneuverable, making it easier to handle around the nose, chin, and fine contours.
