Straight Razor Bergischer Löwe Ebony Spanish Point 6/8" - Dovo

Straight Razor Bergischer Löwe Ebony Spanish Point 6/8" - Dovo

The Dovo Bergischer Löwe Ebony Spanish Point 6/8-inch straight razor is a wide, full-hollow-ground razor for strong beard growth and precise work on contours and difficult areas of the face. The carbon-steel blade combines the smooth handling of a 6/8-inch width with a Spanish point, a thumb notch, black ebony scales, and 24-karat gold ornaments.

Thanks to its greater weight, a wide blade glides particularly smoothly over flat areas of the face and through dense beard growth, but can be less maneuverable in tight spots. The Spanish point partially offsets this disadvantage: Its concave shape and slightly rounded tip make precise work around the nose, ears, and dimples easier, without ending as uncompromisingly sharp as a square point.

Product at a glance

  • 6/8-inch-wide blade for smooth, stable handling
  • Spanish point with a concave shape and rounded tip
  • Fully hollow-ground 1.2210 carbon steel
  • Thumb notch for controlled handling
  • Ebony handle, lion motif, and 24-karat gold ornaments

Materials and craftsmanship

The blade is made from 1.2210 carbon steel, also known as silver steel, and hardened to around 61 HRC. With a full hollow grind, the blade becomes concave and particularly thin from the spine toward the edge. This keeps the wider blade flexible and produces the characteristic bright sound as it cuts through beard hair.

Handcrafted, the straight razor features the Bergischer Löwe as a tribute to Dovo's home region. Ebony is hard, heavy, and dimensionally stable in humid environments. Together with the handle material, the thumb notch supports secure control over the greater weight of the 6/8-inch blade.

How to use

Before shaving, strop the straight razor on a leather strop, stretch the well-lathered skin with your free hand, and guide the blade at an angle of approximately 30 degrees without applying additional pressure. Let the weight of the wide blade do the work and use the tip of the Spanish point slowly for contours and difficult areas. Then rinse the blade with warm water, carefully pat it dry, and leave the razor open to rest in a dry place.

Who is this product suitable for?

The Dovo Bergischer Löwe is particularly suitable for experienced wet shavers with dense or strong beard growth who want to combine smooth handling with precise contour work. Compared with a round point, the Spanish point offers more control at the tip while remaining somewhat more forgiving than a square point. Those seeking maximum maneuverability will generally be better served by a narrower 5/8-inch blade.

Good to know:

The Spanish head combines high precision with a slightly rounded tip; the wide 6/8-inch blade glides smoothly but is less maneuverable than a 5/8-inch blade.

FAQ

The fully hollow-ground blade is made of 1.2210 carbon steel and reaches a hardness of approximately 61 HRC. The ornaments are coated with 24-karat gold, while the black handle scales are made of hard, dimensionally stable ebony.

Stretch the well-lathered skin and hold the razor at an angle of approximately 30 degrees without applying additional pressure. Let the weight of the 6/8-inch blade do the work, and slowly use its slightly rounded tip for contours, the nose, and dimples.

The wide blade moves smoothly and steadily over larger areas of the face, even with dense beard growth. The concave Spanish head also improves control in difficult areas, combining precision with a slightly rounded tip.

This straight razor is particularly suitable for experienced wet shavers with dense or coarse beard growth who want to combine a full shave with precise contours. Those looking for the lightest and most maneuverable blade possible are usually better served by a 5/8-inch version.

Both models feature a wide, full-hollow-ground 6/8-inch blade and ebony scales. The Bergische Löwe combines these with a Spanish point and thumb notch for precise detail work, while the Bismarck has a more forgiving round point.
