Dovo Barbarossa Ebony Spanish Point 5/8" Straight Razor - Dovo

Dovo Barbarossa Ebony Spanish Point 5/8" Straight Razor - Dovo

The Dovo Barbarossa Ebony Spanish Point 5/8-inch straight razor is a compact, full-hollow-ground razor for beard wearers, barbers, and experienced users who want to shape contours with millimetre precision. The short carbon-steel blade combines a balanced 5/8-inch width with a Spanish point, black ebony scales, and an engraving of Emperor Barbarossa.

For clean beard lines, sharpness is not the only crucial factor—maneuverability is equally important. The shortened blade can be guided easily around the moustache, chin, and tight contours. The Spanish point is concave at the front and ends in a slightly rounded tip: this provides good visibility and precision in difficult areas while being somewhat more forgiving than the sharp 90-degree corner of a square point.

Product at a glance

  • Short blade for particularly agile detail work
  • 5/8-inch blade width for stability and control
  • Spanish point for precision with a slightly rounded tip
  • Full-hollow-ground 1.2210 carbon steel
  • Black ebony scales and an engraving of Emperor Barbarossa

Materials and craftsmanship

The blade is made of 1.2210 carbon steel, also known as silver steel, and hardened to around 61 HRC. With a full hollow grind, the blade becomes concave and especially thin from the spine toward the edge. As a result, the short blade responds directly when cutting through beard hair and can be guided precisely.

Ebony is exceptionally hard and heavy. Its structure keeps the scales dimensionally stable even in humid environments and reduces swelling. Multiple sanding stages create a smooth surface that feels comfortable in the hand.

How to use

Before shaving, strop the razor on a leather strop, stretch the well-lathered skin with your free hand, and guide the blade at an angle of approximately 30 degrees without applying additional pressure. Use the tip of the Spanish point slowly and deliberately for tight contours. Afterwards, rinse the blade with warm water, carefully pat it dry, and leave the razor open to rest in a dry place.

Who is this product suitable for?

The Dovo Barbarossa Ebony is particularly suitable for beard wearers and barbers who want to contour the moustache, cheek line, neck, or small areas precisely. Compared with a round point, its pronounced tip requires more practice, but it is less unforgiving than a classic square point. For predominantly large-area full shaves, a blade of standard length may be more practical.

Good to know:

The Spanish head combines high precision with a slightly rounded tip, making it somewhat more forgiving than a classic square head.

FAQ

The short, full-hollow-ground blade is made of 1.2210 carbon steel and reaches a hardness of approximately 61 HRC. The black handle scales are made from hard, heavy, dimensionally stable ebony.

Stretch the well-lathered skin and guide the blade at an angle of approximately 30 degrees without applying additional pressure. Slowly and deliberately use the short cutting edge and slightly rounded tip for the moustache, cheek line, chin, and other tight contours.

The 5/8-inch blade width provides sufficient stability and smooth handling. Since the blade is also shorter than those of conventional straight razors, it can be maneuvered especially easily and guided with millimeter precision around beard contours.

The Barbarossa is particularly well suited for beard wearers and barbers who want to precisely define the mustache, cheek line, or small areas. Its pronounced tip requires more practice than a round head, but its slight curve makes it somewhat more forgiving than a straight head.

Both models feature a short, full-hollow-ground 5/8-inch blade, but differ in their handle and head shape. This ebony version has a concave Spanish head with a slightly rounded tip; the olive wood version features a classic square point with a crisp 90-degree corner.
