Straight Razor Barbarossa olive wood Square Point 5/8" inch - Dovo

Straight Razor Barbarossa olive wood Square Point 5/8" inch - Dovo

The Dovo Barbarossa olive wood square-point 5/8-inch razor is a compact, full-hollow-ground straight razor for beard wearers, barbers, and experienced users who want to shape contours with millimetre precision. The short carbon-steel blade combines a balanced 5/8-inch width with a precise square point, a handle made of naturally grained olive wood, and an engraving of Emperor Barbarossa.

For clean beard lines, not only sharpness but also the blade’s manoeuvrability is crucial. The shortened design is easier to guide around the moustache, chin, and tight contours. The square point ends at the front in a distinctive 90-degree tip, enabling highly precise work but requiring more control and experience than a round point.

Product at a glance

  • Short blade for particularly agile detail work
  • 5/8-inch blade width for stability and control
  • Square point with a 90-degree tip for precise contours
  • Full-hollow-ground carbon steel 1.2210
  • Olive wood handle and engraving of Emperor Barbarossa

Materials and craftsmanship

The blade is made of 1.2210 carbon steel, also known as silver steel, and is hardened to around 61 HRC. With a full hollow grind, it is ground concave and especially thin from the spine towards the edge. This allows the short blade to respond directly when cutting through beard hair and to be guided precisely.

Olive wood is harder than many native wood species and naturally comparatively resistant to moisture. The individual grain makes each handle visually unique. The one-sidedly ridged tang supports a controlled grip of the compact razor.

Use

Before shaving, strop the razor on a leather strop, stretch the well-lathered skin with your free hand, and guide the blade at an angle of approximately 30 degrees without applying additional pressure. Work particularly slowly and deliberately with the tip of the square point. Afterwards, rinse the blade with warm water, carefully pat it dry, and leave the razor open to rest in a dry place.

Who is this product suitable for?

The Dovo Barbarossa olive wood razor is particularly suitable for experienced beard wearers and barbers who want to shape the moustache, cheek line, neck, or small areas precisely. For large-area full shaves, a blade of standard length is often steadier and more efficient; for beginners, a round point with its rounded tip is usually the more forgiving choice.

Good to know:

The short blade and squared head enable millimeter-precise contours, but their sharp 90-degree tip requires experience and a steady hand.

FAQ

The short, fully hollow-ground blade is made of 1.2210 carbon steel and reaches a hardness of around 61 HRC. The handle is crafted from hard, naturally grained olive wood, and each grain pattern is slightly different.

Stretch the well-lathered skin and guide the blade at an angle of approximately 30 degrees without applying additional pressure. Use the short edge and the 90-degree tip slowly and deliberately for the moustache, cheek line, chin, and other tight contours.

The 5/8-inch blade width gives the razor enough stability for smooth handling. Since the blade is also shorter than those of conventional straight razors, it can be maneuvered around beard contours with exceptional agility and millimeter precision.

The Barbarossa is particularly well suited to experienced bearded men and barbers who frequently shave precise contours or small areas. For beginners, a round-point blade is generally more forgiving, while a standard-length blade may be more practical for predominantly large-area full shaves.

The combination of a short blade and classic square point makes the Barbarossa especially agile and precise. A round point is safer when positioning the razor, while a Spanish point also offers excellent detail control; however, the square point’s clear 90-degree tip enables particularly precisely defined lines.
