Spanish Head Straight Razor 5/8" Olive Wood - Ralf Aust

Sometimes it’s precisely the shape of the blade that makes the difference. With this straight razor by Ralf Aust, you not only get a clean shave but also a tool that gives you more options for fine lines and details.

The Spanish point stands out with its curved tip and is especially interesting when you want to shave precise contours. Combined with the proven 5/8 inch blade width, it creates a razor that feels agile while giving you enough control—whether for beard lines or a full shave.

In the hand, the razor feels balanced and direct. You quickly notice how smoothly the blade glides and how pleasantly controlled every movement remains.

Blade Material & Grind

The blade is made from high-quality carbon steel, typical for Solingen straight razors. This material allows for an exceptionally fine edge and can be easily sharpened when needed.

The full hollow grind ensures the blade is slightly flexible and provides direct feedback. This gives you a good sense of pressure and angle during shaving.

Blade Shape & Width

The Spanish point offers you more freedom for precise contours due to its shape. Especially in tricky areas, you can work very accurately but need to pay close attention to guiding the blade.

With a 5/8 inch width, the blade is pleasantly agile and easy to control—a classic size suitable for both beginners and experienced users.

Who is this straight razor suitable for?

  • Contour shavers who value precise lines
  • Beginners who want to explore different blade shapes
  • Advanced users seeking more control over details
  • Suitable for partial and full shaves

Handle Material

The handle made of olive wood features a distinctive, lively grain and feels pleasantly natural. Each razor is thus visually unique.

Olive wood is also robust and durable, making it ideal for daily use in the bathroom.

Usage

Hold the straight razor at a shallow angle against well-prepared skin. Use short, controlled strokes to achieve a clean result.

The shape of the Spanish point is especially suitable for precisely tracing contours—you can use the tip deliberately here.

FAQ

The difference mainly lies in the shape of the blade tip and how precisely you can work with it. The round head is the safest and forgives small mistakes, ideal for beginners and full shaves. The straight head has a straight tip and is well suited for clean contours. The Spanish head offers you the most precision for fine lines but requires a steady and controlled hand.

The difference lies in the width of the blade and thus in the handling. A 5/8 inch razor is more agile and easier to control, especially for beginners or for detail work. A 6/8 inch razor has a bit more weight, glides more smoothly over the skin, and is well suited for larger areas and a relaxed shave.

With normal use, you only need to sharpen a straight razor rarely – often it’s enough to have it sharpened every few months to once a year. Much more important is regularly stropping it on the leather strap before each shave. This keeps the blade sharp and ready for use for a long time.

The most important accessory is a leather strop to sharpen the blade before each shave. Additionally, a good shaving brush and a shaving soap or cream are worthwhile to optimally prepare the skin.
