Spanish Head Straight Razor 6/8" Olive Wood - Ralf Aust

If you want to feel a bit more weight in the blade while shaving, it makes a noticeable difference. This straight razor by Ralf Aust combines precise line control with a calm, stable glide – ideal if you want to improve your technique.

The Spanish point gives you the ability to work very precisely on contours. Together with the 6/8 inch blade width, the razor feels a bit more substantial in the hand than a 5/8 model and glides over the skin with more natural weight.

This creates a balanced feeling of control and smoothness – exactly what many appreciate about a classic shave.

Blade Material & Grind

The blade is made from high-quality carbon steel from Solingen. This steel allows for a very fine edge and can be easily sharpened when needed.

The full hollow grind provides slight flexibility to the blade and gives you direct feedback during shaving. This helps you gauge pressure and angle well.

Blade Shape & Width

The Spanish point is especially suitable for precise contours and clean lines. With its distinctive tip, you can work very accurately but should maintain a steady hand.

At 6/8 inch, the blade offers a bit more weight and stability than a 5/8 model. This ensures a smoother glide and makes shaving larger areas particularly comfortable.

Who is this straight razor suitable for?

  • Advanced users who appreciate more stability in the blade
  • Contour shavers who want to draw precise lines
  • Beginners with some sense of technique
  • Ideal for partial and full shaves

Handle Material

The olive wood handle impresses with its lively, natural grain. Each razor is visually unique and feels pleasantly warm in the hand.

At the same time, olive wood is robust and durable – perfect for daily use.

Usage

Hold the blade at a shallow angle over the prepared skin and work with calm, controlled strokes. Thanks to the slightly higher weight of the 6/8 blade, you can shave in a relaxed manner.

For contours, use the tip of the Spanish point precisely to shave exact lines.

Good to know:

A bit more weight ensures a smoother, more controlled shave.

FAQ

The difference mainly lies in the shape of the blade tip and how precisely you can work with it. The round head is the safest and forgives small mistakes, ideal for beginners and full shaves. The straight head has a straight tip and is well suited for clean contours. The Spanish head offers you the most precision for fine lines but requires a steady and controlled hand.

The difference lies in the width of the blade and thus in the handling. A 5/8 inch razor is more agile and easier to control, especially for beginners or for detail work. A 6/8 inch razor has a bit more weight, glides more smoothly over the skin, and is well suited for larger areas and a relaxed shave.

With normal use, you only need to sharpen a straight razor rarely – often it’s enough to have it sharpened every few months to once a year. Much more important is regularly stropping it on the leather strap before each shave. This keeps the blade sharp and ready for use for a long time.

The most important accessory is a leather strop to sharpen the blade before each shave. Additionally, a good shaving brush and a shaving soap or cream are worthwhile to optimally prepare the skin.
